Back in business – 10 Years, and time for a change

After being online for almost 10 years, we’ve decided it was high time for Japache to get a new, modern look. While the old website was neither poorly designed or developed, and may well have been quite cutting edge during its day, it was still nevertheless designed almost ten years ago, and that’s an eternity in the tech world.
Things change very rapidly in the world of technology, almost exponentially so. For instance, how many of us still use computers we bought ten years ago, much less even remember what kind of hardware was considered up to date and top of the line in the early 2000s?
I seem to remember having an old Celeron overlocked to 377mhz, with 56megs of ram, and an 8 meg voodoo 3 video card and being fairly proud of myself.
The funny thing is I had that old PC for around 7 years (yikes). I believe I first got it in 1996-1997, when it was basically top of the line. Over the years I upgraded as best I could, and kept that sucker around until it really became impossible to keep doing so. I seem to remember one night playing Counterstike 1.3 in a friend’s basement and constantly having to reboot because my system couldn’t render a smoke grenade effect from the Half Life 1 engine.
Yep, things change, and that’s probably for the best. I mean, I doubt many of us would want to keep the same wardrobe today that we had from 10 years ago (as if ANY of those clothes would even still fit). I can’t quite say that I would ever consider going back to the same style of clothing I wore in high school. I think the 90s punk look should stay with the 90s.
So, updating the look of a website falls under the same category. Not everything ages well.
10 years. Heck of a long time.
